Do You Have A Sacred Space?

November 15, 2014

To refresh, renew and nurture your soul, you need a Sacred Space. Do you have one? A Sacred Space is a special place that you can retreat to spend time in quiet meditation, prayer and retrospection.  Whether it is meditation, prayer or simple awareness, a Sacred Space would call you from busyness into inner stillness where hope and holiness meet. Your Sacred Space would be where conversations occur, rituals are perpetuated and silence is heard in search for direction and guidance. Inviting the contemplation of divine mystery, your Sacred Space would encourage an attitude of spiritual openness.

Your Sacred Space grants access to a simple place where the search for divine inspiration, meaning and truth commingles with healthy concepts of self, relationships and being at peace with your place in the universe. Ultimately, if you do not attend to your spiritual self, by allowing time for quiet, prayer and reflection, you may find yourself becoming complacent and losing the spiritual edge to fulfill your life’s purpose.

The ideal place for your Sacred Space would be a section in your home. It would be wonderful if you could devote an entire room to practice the distressing techniques of relaxation and meditation. You could include in that area the things you enjoy to delight your five senses and maximize your appreciation of a personal retreat.

You could engage color to stimulate and indulge your visual consciousness. Start designing your Sacred Space by going online to search for the meaning of specific colors. You could start with a color wheel to determine which colors automatically attract you and converse with your spirit.  For instance, yellow’s imagery is that of intellect, confidence, communication, and movement. Yellow is the color of the element of air. It symbolizes the sun, grain, and the power of thought and is associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy.

On the other hand, green is the color for money, prosperity, employment, healing and growth. Green is the color of nature and symbolizes harmony, freshness, and fertility. It has strong emotional correspondence with safety, has great restorative power and according to experts, is the most restful color for the human eye. Green suggests stability and endurance. Aqua green is associated with emotional healing and protection while olive green is the traditional color of peace.

Furthermore, blue calls forth peace, patience and happiness. Blue is the color of the element of water, of the sky and sea. It is often associated with stability and symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Light blue is linked with health, tranquility, understanding, and softness. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect.

In contrast, purple symbolizes the divine. Purple indicates power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. Purple represents spirituality, meditation, and religion. Purple is also associated with wisdom, dignity, independence and creativity.  Finally, orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation. Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an invigorating effect, and stimulates mental activity. Orange is symbolic of strength and endurance.

There are certainly other color choices. However, the ones listed above could set the atmosphere for pleasing visuals in your Sacred Space. Artwork depicting a restful scene in nature like a waterfall, lush forest, mountains or a rainbow might also provide a backdrop for peace and tranquility. A round floor covering would add an element of splendor because the circle is a universal symbol of unity and wholeness.

Sounds like cascading water against rocks, chimes or soft music could be used to engage your hearing while scented candles or incense would caress your sense of smell. For the sense of touch, textured pillows, silken prayer shawls and soft mats could be employed. To finish, a cool refreshing bottle of spring water would heighten your enjoyment as you spend time in your Sacred Space embracing God’s divine love.

Treat yourself like an honored guest in your Sacred Space. Keep stress and negative energy far away. Reclaim that holy core that exists within the soul and allow it to shine forth in your Sacred Space. You deserve it!
